Oh London. You were my first overseas destination that I visited when I was still an infant and I remember many other family holidays exploring this amazing city. As an adult it still remains one of my favorite places. I might be a bit biased as my family is all originally from London but I have yet to meet someone who didn't like this city.

What is there to love? Museums. Sights. Shops. Food. Yes - the food. Many people still consider English food to be fried and greasy. And bad. But oh how things have changed! Nowadays London is full of ethnic restaurants, gastropubs and fine dining. Some of the best Indian food I've had was in London.

But back to the sights and museums - Tower of London, the London Eye, Westminster Abbey, the British Museum, Hyde Park, Buckingham Palace (open to visitors summer only), Tate Museums, National Portrait Museum, Trafalgar Square, Piccadilly Circus, Victoria and Albert Museum... to name a few.

London is also one of the most kid-friendly destinations. There's a zoo, plenty of green parks and playgrounds, science and natural history museums, the Tower of London and Harry Potter sights. And since everyone speaks English (albeit with accents) it can also be a great destination for the first-time European traveler.

London also offers several day-trip options including to Windsor Castle, the spa town of Bath, the scenic Cotswolds (I grew up in this area and it is beautiful!), Cliffs of Dover... once again to name a few. You could easily spend a week or more focusing only on London and surrounding areas.
